Writing That Means Business
At Life Is Scripted we’re good at what we do – really good. But a lot of businesses want to try their own copywriting. We say work smarter, not harder. But go ahead.
Here are the 6 Golden Rules of Writing we know inside out, upside down, backwards and forwards – straight from the horse’s mouth.
- Find Your Unique Selling Point. Snappy, imaginative and memorable use of your USP helps customers instantly think of you. Get it right, and they’ll never think of anyone else.
- Think Big, Act Small. Be as successful as you can be. But personalise your business by putting a human face to your product, breaking the ‘faceless corporation’ image – or lack thereof – Joe Public hates. Be a person too and you’ll stand out from the crowd.
- Tell A Story. Speak to customers’ heads and you’re just another nobody flogging something they don’t need. Appeal to their hearts and they’ll listen, they’ll like you, and they’ll buy. It sounds cheesy, but a good copywriter makes it look easy.
- Write The Wrongs. We know our past participles from our split infinitives; our verbs from our adverbs. But copywriting should communicate the aims of your business in the best possible way. Sell you business, not your knowledge of grammar.
- Say Only What You Need To Say. No one cares about every detail of your business. Use your USP imaginatively and say only what you need to say. Less is more.
- Exclamation Marks Don’t Sell. Go for greatness, simply. Identify your market and speak in their language, on their terms, and in a way that makes sense to them.
Why give away our secrets? The better you understand how writing works, the more you’ll value really good copywriting. And the truth is, these are only the basics. To see what a really good copywriter can do, get in touch.
